Chawana Fontenot seeking council at-large seat
Chawana Fontenot has announced she will be a candidate for alderwoman at large in the Nov. 4 primary election.
She was the City Council member from Ward 3 for 12 years, choosing not to seek a new term in 2010.
Fontenot, a graduate of Eunice High, is a Eunice native and the daughter of Wilson Vidrine, Jr. and Norma Thibodeaux Vidrine.
She is married to Carl A. Fontenot (34 years). He is the son of the late Harry and Ruth Lintzen Fontenot.
They have two sons, Christopher, married to Hillary, and Corey, married to Kerri, and one grandchild.
The candidate has been employed 28 years by Michael V. Matt, Attorney as a legal secretary/office manager/bookkeeper.
She has been involved in the past in the Jaycees, serving as Community Development Vice President and other offices. Under her leadership, the soccer program was re-instituted and continues to this day.
Fontenot has been extraordinarily involved in youth recreation. She served as concession director and secretary/treasurer of Eunice Baseball, Inc. for about 15 years and was a director of the Biddy Basketball program for six years.
She has been involved in activities at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, where she was been seafood booth chairman for the annual bazaar for 10 years. She is currently an active lector and belongs to Catholic Daughters Court No. 208.
