Dardenne launches Experience Louisiana Festival's formal lead-up
It’s official -- the Experience Louisiana Festival will be held at LSU Eunice on Oct. 17-18, 2015, highlighting the rich cultural history and future of the state, with the full backing of the state’s considerable tourism and cultural machine headed by Lt. Gov.(and gubernatorial candidate) Jay Dardenne.
Dardenne formally launched the getting-ready year at a ribbon cutting and project review held Tuesday afternoon at the university.
The festival traces its ancestral lineage to the Folklife Festival held in Eunice several decades ago, and adds to it offspring such as a Musician’s Village, Artist’s Village, Craft Village, Food Village, Film Village, Walk Through Louisiana and other exhibits.
Officials announced that the first music group officially booked is Geno Delafose & French Rockin’ Boogie.
Initially planned for November, the Festival is now slotted for the weekend between Festival Acadiean and the Black Pot Festival in St. Landry. Crowley's Rice Festival is the same weekend, a fortuitous combination from the vantage point of travel planners and tourists who like to see and do as much as possible when in an area at any given time.
Organizers believe the two will supplement and compliment each other, they said.
Dardenne noted the the festival is on point with Louisiana’s message of authentic food, music and zest for life.
