Donna Baltakis a candidate for School Board
Donna Baltakis, director of Keep Eunice Beautiful, has announced she will run in the Nov. 4 primary for the St. Landry Parish School Board in District 12, a seat being vacated by Josie Frank.
Baltakis is co-chair of the LSU Eunice Performing Arts Series and a board member of the St. Landry-Evangeline United Way.
She is married to Dr. Tony Baltakis, Professor of History at LSU Eunice, and they have been active residents of Eunice for 17 years The couple has two grown sons, both of whom reside in Florida.
Baltaki has a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology/Psychology from Baldwin Wallace University in Ohio and is a graduate of Lutheran Medical Center ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) Medical Technology program.
She has worked as a Registered Medical Technologist in bacteriology, as an Associate Director of Substance Abuse for a residential and outreach program as part of a mental health clinic, as a social worker supervising a Work Incentive Program for AFDC mothers, and as a supervisor in Aging and Adult Services.
Baltakis was named Eunice Citizen of the Year for 2013, as well as the St. Landry-Evangeline United Way Board Member of the Year.
She chairs the Community Investment Committee for United Way, interviewing all perspective United Way agencies and determining the amounts dispersed to each agency.
Batalkis is a former literacy tutor for VITA, former CCD teacher at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, former Advisory Board Chair for LSU University Medical Center, and developed resource guides for St. Landry Parish for children, families, the elderly, and disabled.
