Early voting up

Early voting in the state and locally indicate more interest in Tuesday’s election than in the election four years ago.
In St. Landry Parish, 6,556 people voted early at the end of voting Tuesday, which represents about 11 percent of the 58,599 voters eligible for the election. Four years ago, 5,214 people voted early.
It is the same story in Acadia Parish where 5,986 people voted early, up from 4,690 votes four years ago. There are 40,204 voters registered to vote Tuesday in Acadia Parish.
In the state, 515,181 people voted early, up from 356,603 early votes four years ago.
Early voting began Oct. 25 and ended Tuesday.
A breakdown of early voters according to the Louisiana Secretary of State website includes:
St. Landry Parish — 3,702 white; 2,719 black; 135 other; 2,886 male; 3,670 female; 3,681 Democrat; 1,949 Republican; and 926 other party.
Acadia Parish — 5,162 white; 747 black; 2,829 male; 3,156 female; 2,509 Democrat; 2,514 Republican; and 962 other party.
State — 358,710 white; 137,338 black; 219,851 male; 295,259 female; 228,971 Democrat; 199,594 Republican; and 86,616 other.
Polls on Tuesday are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
A photo identification is needed to vote.
The registration deadline for the Nov. 8 election has passed, but registration is accepted until Nov. 9 for the Dec. 10 runoff election.
The the last day to request an absentee by mail ballot for the Presidential Election and Congressional Primary Election is 4:30 p.m. Friday.
The last day to request an absentee by mail ballot for the Congressional General Election is 4:30 p.m. Dec. 6.
Voters can request an absentee by mail ballot online through the state Secretary of State’s Voter Portal or in writing from a registrar of voters office.
Registration is available at the registrar of voters offices or online at geauxvote.com.
St. Landry Parish Registrar of Voters Cheryl Milburn reports there are 58,649 voters registered in the parish for the Nov. 8 election. There are 33,272 registered as Democrats; 12,734 registered as Republicans; and 12,643 as other party.
In Acadia Parish, Billie Myer, registrar of voters, reports 40,189 voters registered for the Nov. 8 election. Of those, 18,803 are Democrats; 11,863 are Republicans; and 9,523 are other party.
