The October election brought change to the Eunice-area political landscape.
Phillip DeVillier won the election for District 41 state representative. DeVillier will follow three-term Rep. Mickey Guillory into the office.
Guillory was term-limited out of the office.
A 22-year veteran of parish government, Gary Courville, was defeated by political newcomer Coby Clavier in the election for the District 13 St. Landry Parish Council seat.
How the two new officeholders will change things is yet to be seen. DeVillier ran as a Republican in his bid to replace Guillory, a Democrat.
Clavier ran as a Republican to replace Courville, a Democrat.
House District 41 encompasses parts of Acadia, Evangeline and St. Landry parishes including the Eunice, Church Point, Basile and Iota.
DeVillier won with 56 percent of the vote. His opponents were Greg Fruge, who held the post before Guillory, and Eunice Board of Alderman member Germaine Simpson.
DeVillier owns DeVillier House Movers. DeVillier also owns a property rental and development business dealing with residential development, Savannah Claire, Inc.
Clavier is a lifelong resident of Eunice. He graduated from Eunice High School in 1998. Clavier has been married 15 years and has three children.
Clavier has been employed at Coburn Supply since 1997 and has been manager since 2005.
