Eunice anti-litter effort to be renewed

Keep Eunice Beautiful will again take part in the statewide Leaders Against Litter event at 8 a.m. Friday inside the lobby of Eunice City Hall.
“Elected officials, business and civic leaders, church and school leaders, and anyone interested in standing for a litter-free Louisiana are asked to join us,” Donna Baltakis, Keep Eunice Beautiful director, said.
Everyone is asked to meet at 8 a.m. to sign the pledge board, take a group picture, and those who can will then go to a designated area for a brief morning cleanup.
Baltakis encourages everyone in the community, businesses, civic clubs, schools alike to do their part in keeping Eunice litter free. Baltakis said, “Last year Eunice had more volunteers than any other affiliate around the state.”
Leaders Against Litter is an annual statewide Keep Louisiana Beautiful event that invites community leaders and elected officials to lead the way against litter. It serves as the kickoff event for Great American Cleanup by uniting leaders throughout the state to raise awareness and to inspire others to volunteer.
Baltakis added, “Afterwards they return to city hall to sign the pledge board, take a group picture, and have some light morning refreshments. In case of bad weather leaders are still asked to report to city hall to watch a video from Keep Louisiana Beautiful, sign the pledge, take a picture and have refreshments.
“Schools and church groups are invited as well; if they are unable to attend the actual event they can contact Keep Eunice Beautiful and have a cleanup around their church/school any time the weekend before the event and still be counted as a Leader Against Litter.”
Baltakis asked all Eunice citizens to take the Pledge: “We all have an obligation to preserve and protect our beautiful state. Together, we can make a huge impact. I promise to support Keep Louisiana Beautiful and the local affiliates for a litter-free, more beautiful Louisiana. I will … Speak Up and spread the word that litter is not acceptable in Louisiana. I will …Pick Up litter whenever I see it. I will …Stand Up and lead the way for a litter-free Louisiana.”
