Eunice Community Concert Band & Choir celebrating 25th year
The Eunice Community Concert Band & Choir will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a special summer concert at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
Founded in 1990, the ECCBC has enjoyed the support of patrons and sponsors from throughout south Louisiana, positioning the organization as an established and respected advocate for the performing arts.
The organization’s membership roll includes local communities such as Eunice, Basile, Chataignier, Iota, Rayne and Crowley, as well as members from Lafayette, Breaux Bridge, Jeanerette, Scott, Maurice, Youngsville, New Iberia, Loreauville and others.
Conductor and co-founder Dwight Jodon said, “The concerts are much more than merely playing musical selections. We have a lot of fun – musicians and audience – and this summer’s concert is no exception. In fact, this concert includes a skit accompanied by the concert band. We will also feature two Navy veterans who will assist with conducting March Grandioso.”
Patricia Dossman, general manager and co-founder, said, “This is a milestone season for us. We appreciate the support we receive from the community and really throughout the region. Most cities in Acadiana have been represented on stage at some point during these two-and-a-half decades.”
Concert selections vary in style ranging from Broadway to gospel, Latin to patriotic, and everything in-between. Titles include “Razzle Dazzle,” “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore,” “The Prayer, Lord Lift Me Up,” “I Love You,” “Buenaventura,” “Aladdin,” “Clown Act,” “March Grandioso,” “Fidgety Feet,” “The Genius of Ray Charles,” “Fascinating Rhythm,” “A Wink and a Smile,” “Hallelujah Thine the Glory,” “Just a Closer Walk With Thee,” “On Broadway” and “Thanks for the Memories.”
The Eunice Community Children’s Choir, directed by Arien Harper, will perform an upbeat and fun selection entitled “I Love You.”
Tickets are $5 adults and $2 children under 12, and are available by calling 337-457-1776 or at the door. For more information, visit the Eunice Community Concert Band & Choir website at www.ECCBC.org or Facebook page, www.Facebook.com/eccbc.
