State Rep. Armand Brinkhaus defeated incumbent Robert Guillory in the 34th Senate Dist. race. Tommy Powell and Dr. John Tassin are in a PSC runoff.
Sister Monica Stelly has been named principal at St. Edmund Catholic High School. Originally from Lake Charles, she has led schools in Morgan City and New Orleans.
First National Bank of Eunice is organizing. Subscription price is $20. Fifty thousand shares will be issued. Among sponsors are Thelma Aguillard, Lester Gil, Dr. Gary LaFleur, Charles Loeb Jr., Dr. Sylvan Manuel, Jonas Mason, Perry Pitre, Ira Richard, Hubert Rogeau, Stewart Rozas, Isaac Seale, Paul Stutes, Kearney Tate, Leonce Thibodeaux, Newton Thibodeaux and Raymond Kron Jr.
Jan and Ted Deshotel have opened Jan’s Doll House at 103 West Walnut. It features clothing for girls and juniors.
A French club has been organized at St. Edmund’s. President is Gerard Caswell.
Randy Miller, president of the Eunice High FFA, represented the school at the national convention in Kansas City, Mo.
Eunice Food Mart held its grand opening at 601 West Maple. Owners are Mr. and Mrs. Tom Gorley and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Olivier. The women are sisters (nee Vidrine).
Photographer Jerry Devillier of Eunice will have several of his works published by internationally known Bob Stocksell’s next photo instruction book.
LSU Eunice freshman student newspaper editor Dell Thomas was named Miss Black Eunice. She is the daughter of Mr.a nd Mrs. Alvin Thomas, Sr. The Ebony Club sponsors the pageant.
