New teachers this fall at Eunice Junior High are Danny Chachere, science and PE; Donna Bordelon, reading; Jean Sonnier, English; Sheila Loeb, Louisiana history and civics; and Clarence Taylor, science. Freddie Alfred is principal.
St. Anthony’s Catholic Church pastor the Rev. Charles Soileau said a full mausoleum facility will be constructed in the St. Paul Cemetery.
Former Basile mayor C.L. “Chunkie” Hester, Jr. died at age 51. He was mayor for eight years and a town alderman for 16. He was chairman of Basile State Bank.
Entertainment options this month include Bert Miller and his Rhythm & Blues Band at Lakeview Club and Rockin’ Sidney every Friday and Saturday nights at John’s Lounge, Hwy. 190 West from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. Mike Simon is playing rock & roll and modern country music at Powell’s Lounge.
Acadian Sports Center, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Keith Chapman, has opened at 147 North 4th. It is a full-time sporting goods store. Opening in the same block is Dupre & Son Floor Covering (Jimmy & Harry Dupre) and Cleco Customer Service Office. R.P. Fontenot is the developer-general contractor.
Services were held for Mary Baker “Cubby” Parrott Morris, the first woman elected a legislator from St. Landry Parish. She was 82.
Maxine Manuel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hubay Manuel was elected Miss LSUE.
Hubert Rougeu plans to build the 40-unit Pecan Grove Apartment Complex on Maple Avenue between 6th and 7th streets. President of the proprietary firm is attorney Donald L. Mayeux.
