Mayor Ken Peart announced that Louisiana State Police now have a toll-free number to which to report suspected terrorist activity.
Federal Judge Richard Haik has tentatively approved a derailment “class” boundary that includes as many as 20,000 people. The radius from the May 2000 derailment site is 13 miles north, 11 miles south, 15 miles east and 10 miles west of the City Lake site. About 7,500 plaintiffs have already enrolled in the class.
Carver High defeated Eunice 22-21 in the football playoffs first round. St. Edmund defeated Cedar Creek 21-19. Both games were on the road. St. Ed’s lost its second-round game to Sterlington, 34-0.
Alicia Batiste was named the new Miss Black Eunice at ceremonies at LSU Eunice.
Eunice resident Wyatt Rougeau was shot while standing next to his truck at West Bay Game Management Area before daylight. An unknown person on an ATV shot a deer, hitting Rougeau.
Community Medical Center CEO Larry Walker has resigned to accept a post with another Louisiana-based health care organization.
