The St. Landry Parish School Board requested its legal counsel seek an attorney general’s opinion on the legality of drug-testing school employees. Superintendent Raymond Fontenot recommended the board seek the opinion. Fontenot had doubts about the legality of random drug testing of teachers.
Veterans James Bollich and Bruce Miller told their stories about the Bataan Death March in the Philippines during World War II. Bollich had recently written a book, “A Soldier’s Journal.”
Eunice police and ABC officers raided five lounges in Eunice, but made no arrests. The lounges were Tip Top Bar, Flamingo Lounge, Daiquiri Outlet, Cajun Country Lounge and John’s Lounge. The raids followed complaints about juveniles being in the lounges, but no one under 18 was found in the lounges during the raids.
St. Edmund’s Peter Daigle pitched a five-hit shutout as the Blue Jays clinched at least a tie for the District 5-1A title with a win over Merryville.
The Eunice High Bobcats, thanks to “tough pitching” by Chris Savoy and Mike LeBoeuf, defeated Crowley 4-3 and stayed in the race for the district title.
The Eunice city council approved a Downtown Alive event proposed by the Downtown Association. Gary Miller, an association member, said details would be provided later.
Students in Ms. Fountain’s Glendale Elementary kindergarten class competed in an egg-decorating contest. Winners were Billy McCauley, Ashley Chaffin, Bryan Thibodeaux, Millie Miller, Randy Reed, and Casey Guidry.
Detective Eddie Thibodeaux, Beth Savoy and Lt. Blaine Guillory competed in the 47th annual Municipal Police Officers Association match during a convention in Lafayette. Thibodeaux placed second in the sharpshooter competition and first in the Class D bullseye event. Savoy scored 200 points of 200 points for the first time in the competion’s history. She placed 17 of 20 rounds in the bullseye. Guillory won first place in the expert competition.
