The following are from the pages of the July 2002 editions of The Eunice News.
The Eunice All-Star Mustangs won the state championship. They were to compete in Humble, Texas, in the next level of competition.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the United Community Health Center of the St. Landry/Evangeline United Way. The center was located on Nile Street in the former Eunice Nursing Home.
Pierre Martel spoke at a Eunice Kiwanis Club meeting about a proposed French immersion program in Eunice. Working on the French program were former Mayor Curtis Joubert, Debbie Ortego and Mike Dupre. Martel asked the public to contact School Board members Clifton Clause, Germaine Courville and Roger Young in support of the project.
Brenda Hardy was retiring from Eunice High School where she was a counselor. She had worked 17 years at the high school and 34 years with the St. Landry Parish School Board.
Chris Walker, 14, of Eunice was credited with saving the life a drowining man at Butte La Rose.
