Eunice, parish sales tax revenue declines
Eunice and St. Landry Parish sales tax revenue weakened at the end of the 2015, according to a report from the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division.
In Eunice, December sales tax revenue was $402,742, down 5.8 percent from November’s revenue.
For the year, Eunice sales tax revenue totaled $5,257,499, which was 1 percent greater than 2014 total collections.
The parish sales tax report included revenue from 2012 through 2015.
The peak year for Eunice collections was $5,402,768 in 2013. Sales tax revenues dropped 3.6 percent in 2014 compared to 2013. Eunice sales tax revenues rose 6.7 percent from 2012 to 2013.
Eunice’s December sales tax revenue was $402,742, which was a 4.5 percent decrease from the December 2014 revenue.
In St. Landry Parish, 2015 total sales tax revenue was $66,170,968, up from $64,359,225, or 2.8 percent, in 2014.
Total parish sales tax revenues were boosted by the addition of a 2 percent sales tax collected in unincorporated St. Landry Parish beginning in 2014.
Parish collections were $59,776,690 in 2013. The total rose to $64,359,225 in 2014 with the addition of the 2 percent tax collected for a 15-year road program.
In December, parish revenues totaled $5,090,346, a 1.5 percent increase over the 2014 December revenues.
Parish sales tax revenue of $5,090,345 in December represented a 2.7 percent decline from November’s total.
In a month-to-month comparisons, 2015 parish sales tax revenue totals were down in May, June, July, September, November and December compared to the same months in 2014.
In Eunice, 2015 sales tax revenues were down in May, August, September, November and December compared to the same months in 2014.
The parish sales tax total includes parish, school, solid waste, law enforcement and municipal taxes.
The sales tax rate in Eunice is 9.75 percent. Of that 4 percent is state, 3.55 percent is parish and 2.2 percent is city.
Unincorporated areas pay a 9.5 percent sales tax rate, which includes 4 percent state and 5.5 percent parish.
