Eunice qualifying completed

4 candidates for mayor, 3 for Ward 4 alderman

Qualifying for two Eunice elections slated for March 5 ended Friday with the field unchanged from the first day of qualifying.
Four people qualified to run for the expired term of mayor and three people qualified for the Ward 4 Board of Alderman seat.
Qualifying for mayor are:
— William “Mr. Bill” Thompson, Democrat, 411 Harold St.
— Roland Miller, Republican, 1220 Faris Ave. Eunice.
— “Tim” Longman, Republican, 1201 Yukon St. Eunice.
— Scott A. Fontenot, No party, 531 W. Park Blvd. Eunice.
Qualifying for alderman are:
— “Dale” Soileau, Democrat, 441 S. Sixth St. Eunice.
— James “Donnie” Fontenot, No party, 421 S. Fifth St. Eunice.
The seats were left open after former mayor Claud “Rusty” Moody Jr. died Nov. 3 less than year into his second term.
Scott Fontenot, Ward 4 alderman, was appointed by the Board of Alderman as interim mayor in a special session on Nov. 3.
Fontenot was serving his second term as an alderman.
Connie Thibodeaux was appointed by the Board of Aldermen to fill Fontenot’s seat.
The primary election for both positions is scheduled March 5, 2016, with an April 9 general election.
The winners will have about three years to serve until the next election.
Qualifying was also under way for party positions in St. Landry Parish.

DSCC Member 41st Representative District, Office “A” (one to be elected): Cinderella W. Hayes, Eunice.
DSCC Member 41st Representative District, Office “B” (one to be elected): Mark J. Guillory, Eunice.
DSCC Member 46th Representative District, Office “A” (one to be elected): Lynda T. Guidry, Cecilia.
DSCC Member 46th Representative District, Office “B” (one to be elected): Michael Seider, Breaux Bridge.
