Eunice Toddler 'escape artist' lands mother in jail for second time
A Eunice toddler and part-time amateur escape artist landed his mother in jail for the second time over the weekend after the Eunice Police Department fielded an early morning complaint from a witness reporting an abandoned child “in the middle of the street” and “at Circle Park”, according to the police radio logs.
Officers responded to the report of an unattended toddler near the Circle Park on West Park Avenue early Sunday. Upon arrival, officers located a four-year-old male walking alone.
Officers then located an open door on an apartment across from the Circle Park.
Officers then made contact with the mother, Gwen Faul, 37, in regards to the call. The Eunice Police Department juvenile division was then notified.
The child was placed into the custody of a responsible adult and the mother was placed under arrest. Faul was transported to Eunice PD where she was booked for improper supervision of a minor.
She was released a few hours later after posting a $1,000 bond.
Police said that this is the second time that a call of this nature was received because the same toddle r– who was believed to be three at the time of the first report– was walking alone near the park.
This first call took place on February 8, 2014 at 5:39am in 30-degree weather and officers summoned an ambulance to transport the child to the hospital for observation.
