Experience Louisiana Festival is a homecoming event for storyteller

Mowata native Tom Coleman is to spin a tale or two at the Experience Louisiana Festival as a visiting artist at the Artist Village Stage.
Coleman, a 1971 graduate of Eunice High School, is scheduled to tell his stories beginning at 12:50 p.m. Oct. 23.
The Experience Louisiana Festival is scheduled Oct. 22 and 23 on the LSUE campus.
After high school, Colemen attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana and later graduated from St. Joseph College Seminary near Covington.
It was in college while working in the theater that Coleman found himself at ease in front of an audience, and he was drawn to stage work in community theater until he landed in Atlanta. It was there that he discovered most local theatrical companies were professional and required a membership in an actors guild in order to participate.
Soon afterwards he answered an open casting call for Southern ghost storytellers at a local arts organization in Stone Mountain, Georgia. And it was here that he realized his true calling of being not just a storyteller, but the token Cajun storyteller of Atlanta.
Coleman was one of the regular tellers for 10 years at A.R.T. Station’s Tour of Southern Ghosts in the plantation of Stone Mountain Park and has been featured at the Atlanta Storytelling Festival, the Middle Georgia Storytelling Festival, Caldwell Gardens, the Atlanta History Center and the Sandy Springs Historical Society among others. He has been a member of the Southern Order of Storytellers Guild, the Ocali Storytelling Guild in Ocala, Fla. and is currently a member of the Bayouland Storytellers Guild of Southwest Louisiana.
For 25 years Coleman has been weaving tales for crowds, bringing them along for the ride as he regales them with a healthy dose of Cajun culture, folklore and just plain made up stuff. As for the factuality of his tales Coleman responds, “I never let the truth get in the way of a good story.”
