Nilas Young of Mamou received a gold gavel, awarded to SLI students who participate in four or more intercollegiate debates, and LeRoy David of Eunice received a varsity letter in tennis.

Champion Rice Mills of Houston, Texas is constructing a new building and warehouse between the Southern Pacific and Missouri Pacific tracks. Capacity of the mill will be 300,000 bags per season.
