Work has begun in getting temporary post office quarters ready for occupancy in the former King-Dollar Store building while renovations take place in the postal facility.
Leon Tujague, Jr. has been named auditor and trust officer of Planters Trust and Savings in Opelousas.
Lucille Cheveres is the new Miss Eunice. The 17-year-old is the daughter of Mrs. Eula Mae Cheveres. She succeeds her sister, Linda.
State Sen. Edwin Edwards of Crowley and TV newscaster Gary Tyler of Lake Charles will be in a runoff for the 7th District U.S. House seat.
Hurricane Betsy gave Eunice plenty to clean up .
Eunice’s third bank, Acadiana Bank and Trust, is in temporary quarters on Walnut Street in the building formerly quarters of the Sears mail order store.
Debra Duplichien is president of the freshman class at St. Edmund Catholic High School. Senior class president is Craig Soileau and junior president is Lele LaFleur. Sophomore A president is Don David and B president is Sammy Fuselier.
The Caroline Dorman lodge has opened at Chicot State Park’s Arboretum.
City Council members will decide next month whether to proceed with Operation Forethought, the re-development of the downtown district.
Col. George F. Charlton, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Charlton of 951 North First St., has been named chief of the United Nations Command Armistice Affairs Division, which moderates matters between Korea and China.
