Police confirm four persons died at the scene and two others were injured after a head-on collision which happened approximately at 2:30 p.m. Friday on La. 13 just south of Eunice.
State Police confirmed 22-year-old Jacob Courville of Eunice, was driving a 2005 Honda Civic north on LA Highway 13, and a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 48-year-old Chaman Richardson of Mamou, was traveling south on LA Highway 13. Troopers say Courville was wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner. Courville had three passengers in his vehicle at the time of the crash. Investigators say two of the passengers, a male and a female, were unrestrained and were pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner. The third passenger, 24-year-old Joshua Lejeune, a native of Opelousas, was unrestrained and transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where he died later.
Troopers are still working to notify the next of kin for the male and female.
Richardson was restrained and was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. A passenger in his vehicle, 29-year-old Jamie Prejean of Mamou, was unrestrained and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner.
It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
