Four attempted murder counts after man allegedly sets fire to occupied house
A Eunice man was arrested and charged with four counts of attempted first degree murder and aggravated arson on Tuesday after allegedly attempting to burn down a house with four people inside.
John Bourque was identified and taken into custody after Eunice Police officers responded to 241 East Oak Avenue.
A 911 caller stated that a man was pouring gasoline onto the residence that was occupied by the unidentified four individuals. The suspect then set the house on fire and left the scene but the victims doused the flames before officers arrived.
The first victim stated that Bourque was banging on the door and stated that he was looking for his girlfriend. When the first victim opened the door, Bourque allegedly threw gasoline on him and tried to set him on fire. The victim pushed Bourque out of the residence and locked the door.
The victims stated that Bourque then set the house on fire at the doorway then broke windows on the house before fleeing the scene. Bourque was located two blocks away by officers and was taken into custody. A red gasoline container was also located and seized as evidence.
Bourque was also charged with criminal damage to property. Bourque appeared before 27th Judicial District Judge Donald Hebert and bond was set at $502,500.00. He was still incarcerated in the Eunice City Jail as of Wednesday.
