Granger back in 'Vangy public works post
The Evangeline Parish Police Jury during a special meeting Monday voted five to three to promote Chester Granger to the parish public works director.
Granger was public works director before resigning in May 2012. Dustin Vidrine had been public works director, but he resigned earlier this month.
Jurors Eric Soileau, Bryan Vidrine, Ryan Ardoin, Kenny Burgess and Lamar Johnson voted to hire Granger. Voting against were jurors Rocky Rider, Ryan Williams and Kevin Veillon. Juror Richard Thomas was not at the meeting.
Granger, who has been a road crew supervisor, was at the meeting and when asked if he had any remarks, said he did and approached the podium.
He thanked the jurors who voted to promote him to public works director, and said “I understand” why the three jurors voted against him. “Thank y’all for giving me a second chance.” he said.
During a police jury meeting in June 2012, when candidates for public works director spoke to the jurors, Granger had asked to be reinstated as director. The jurors voted not to re-install Granger later that month.
The jurors were informed by juror Vidrine that the state will stock Crooked Creek Reservoir with some 2,200, 10- to 12-inch, grass-eating carp. The state will stock the reservoir at no cost to the parish.
