Hayes seeks School Board Dist. 12 seat
Albert “Al” Hayes, Jr. is a candidate for St. Landry Parish School Board Member District 12 in the Nov. 4 primary election.
Hayes holds certifications in the areas of Social Studies; Supervisor of Student Training; Principalship in Elementary and Secondary Schools; Supervisor of Child Welfare and Attendance and/or Visiting Teacher; and Supervisor of Instruction for Parish or City School.
He graduated from Charles Drew High School in Eunice. He received an Associate of Arts Degree from LSU Eunice (1973), a Bachelor of Science in Education from LSU Baton Rouge (1975), a Master of Education Degree from LSU Baton Rouge (1979) as well as completing 30 additional graduate hours from various colleges and universities.
Hayes served 33 years as a teacher, coach, and facilitator for at-risk students at School Away from School in Eunice. In addition to his regular classroom duties, he worked as a tutor after school for at risk youth in Access to Success, an ATOD Prevention program.
As a Truancy Prevention Specialist, he has worked to minimize truancy and deter delinquency. Hundreds of students attended the free Summer Leadership Seminars he directed in cooperation with LSU Eunice and Helping Hands on the Eunice campus.
Hayes and his wife, Cinderella (a retired LSU Eunice librarian) have been married for 39 years. They are the parents of two sons -- Lucien Benjamin and Albert Arlan. Albert is in junior high school; Lucien and his wife Joenette have two children. The candidate is the son of Albert Hayes and Hilda Allison Hayes (now deceased).
After leaving the St. Landry Parish School system, Hayes has continued to work in the field of education. He currently serves as a behavioral specialist in Acadia Parish.
