Last-minute shoppers

Candles, hot cocoa sets, gift cards are some of the ideas
By Claudette Olivier Staff Reporter

There are only five shopping days left to get those last-minute Christmas presents, and several locals shared their gift ideas.
Carmen Reaux, of Eunice, said, “I like local, so I’d get some gift cards from Cafe Mosaic and Ruby’s. We have good food and good coffee here in Eunice. Who’s going to complain about that? I work at Patrick’s Full Service Salon here in town, so I’ll probably give some hair products, too.”
Reaux said she orders a lot of her gifts online, but she will likely make a shopping trip to Lafayette before Christmas to get some presents for family, friends and her godchild.
Jeannie Fontenot of Mamou had a confession to make about her “Saint” Nick-of-time shopping ideas.
“I’m a last minute shopper,” Fontenot said, laughing. “I had no time to shop this year, but I do normally shop.”
Fontenot suggested baking sweets like cookies and brownies and putting them in gift bags as a last minute gift idea.
“You can do it last minute, and it’s easy,” she said. “People can be picky, but everybody likes sweets so I know I’m not wasting my money.”
Amelia Lafleur, of Vidrine, admitted that she had not started her Christmas shopping as of Friday. Lafleur suggested socks and the receiver’s favorite candy as a last minute gift.
“I’ll shop locally for family, friends and two nieces,” Lafleur said.
Kasee Lejeune, of Eunice, had not finished with her Christmas shopping yet and said she would be shopping locally to find a game console she planned to give as a gift.
“I need to get things for family, friends and nieces and nephews,” Lejeune said. “I’d give a hot cocoa set as a last minute gift. Everybody loves hot cocoa.”
Nancy Bickham, of Eunice, suggested candle sets as a popular last-minute gift idea.
“People love candles, too,” she said, laughing. “Hot cocoa and candles go well together.”
Bickham said she would shop locally, and she needed to get a battery for her daughter’s battery-operated car.
“I have not done any shopping yet, embarrassingly,” Bickham said. “I will shop locally for my family, kids and grandkids.”
The Rev. Clinton Sensat of Eunice said he does most of his Christmas shopping online, and his last minute gift purchases would be for his mother and father.
“I will get them some traveling stuff,” Sensat said. “They have been traveling a lot lately. As a gag gift, I’ll probably get them the writings of Marco Polo. Maybe they can reproduce his travels to China. Hopefully, they will go by plane and not by camel.”
