LIBERTY CONCERT
The Liberty Center is usually the venue to listen to Cajun, Creole and zydeco music.
On Friday the Liberty is to host a different sound as Connie G and Louisiana Red are scheduled to perform in a concert to begin at 7 p.m.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and the evening’s master of ceremony will be Todd Ortego, a radio personality at KBON.
“This is something like we haven’t seen in Eunice in a very long time if ever,” Ortego said. It is basically like Las Vegas entertainment.”
Connie G — Connie Garrett — impersonates Tina Turner and performs R&B and soul.
Louisiana Red is “... really quite versatile from current hits to favorites through the years,” Ortego said.
“With the addition of Jennifer Kaye Arnceneaux in the last couple of years, she adds a lot of personality and showmanship to the band,” Ortego said of Louisiana Red.
One common factor for Friday’s performances is Connie G and Arceneaux are “sassy” lead singers, he said.
The result is bound to draw the audience to the Liberty’s dance floor, he said.
“There is not a bad seat in the house. It sounds great in there,” Ortego said of the Liberty.
For the past three decades, Connie G., a Lafayette-based R&B and soul singer and award-winning Tina Turner impersonator has played far and wide along with local bands and now with her own band- Creole Soul. Not only has she opened numerous shows for national acts, such as “Robin Thicke” and “The Gap Band,” but also she has been given impromptu opportunities by the likes of “The Isley Brothers” and “Jeffery Osborne,” and wowed the crowd.
Connie G has hits of her own like “My Man” and “Looking For a Rodeo” that keep the dance floors packed, and she also sings renditions of Etta James’s “I’d Rather Go Blind” and Koko Taylor’s “Voodoo Woman.”
Louisiana Red, a seven-piece powerhouse with more than 25 years of success will open for Connie G.
Louisiana Red performs the latest dance hits and also pays tribute to the classic soulful dance songs of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. This mixture of timeless, elegant, and high energy dance music has created thousands of memorable wedding receptions, Mardi Gras balls, parties, anniversaries, and corporate events over the span of more than two decades throughout Acadiana.
The concert is a fundraiser for the Experience Louisiana Festival scheduled Oct. 17 and 18 on the LSUE campus. The festival is to raise money for the LSUE Foundation scholarship fund and Eunice Rotary Club project, which includes the Eunice Community Health Clinic.
The concert is sponsored by Eunice Rotary Club, LSUE Performing Arts Series and the City of Eunice.
Tickets are $20. Order by calling St. Landry Chamber of Commerce at 942-2683 or 315-1975 or Experience Louisiana at 457-1776.
