Master plan steering committee to be created

The creation of a steering committee of 11 people to study the cost effectiveness of a master plan for Eunice was approved Tuesday by aldermen.
Alderman Marion “Nootsie” Sattler said the committee would provide progress reports back to the council on a periodic basis in his motion.
Jack Burson, alderman at-large, added that each alderman would name two members to serve on the committee and the mayor would name one person.
Creation of a master plan was the subject of a town hall meeting attended by about 50 people at City Hall on July 2.
One of the leaders at that meeting, Don Reber, chairman of the Eunice Economic Development Committee, said, “We just need for them to say ‘it is not a good idea, let’s not do it,’ or ‘this is a great idea, we need to figure out how to do it’...”
But Reber also faulted the lack of specifics about the committee’s creation.
“I wish they would have put time lines on it,” he said. “They didn’t say when they are going to appoint and they didn’t say what the period of appointment is. They didn’t say appointed by the next meeting.”
