Miller wins District 40 race, fire district taxes approved, Parish Council seat decided

Edwards, Nungessor, Landry win

Democrat John Bel Edwards has defeated Sen. David Vitter in the race for governor.
Republican Billy Nungessor defeated Democrat Kip Holden in the lieutenant governor’s election.
Republican Jeff Landry has defeated incumbent Buddy Caldwell, also a Republican, in the election for attorney general.
In the unofficial results from the Secretary of State’s Office with 97 percent of the precincts reporting, Edwards won 56 percent of the vote; Nungesser won with 56 percent of votes and Landry garnered 57 percent of the vote.
In the District 40 state representative race, Dustin Miller has won with 56 percent of the vote. He defeated Donovan Hudson.
The 10-year 4.52-mill property tax for Fire Protection District 6 has passed with 64 percent of the vote. The turnout was 27.1 percent. There were 451 “Yes” votes and 257 “No” votes.
The Acadia-Evangline Fire Protection District 4.1 mill tax has passed with 73 percent of the vote. The turnout for the 10-year tax was 32.5 percent, according to the Secretary of State’s website.
The 7.84-mill Bellevue and Coulee Crouche Gravity Drainage District 20 tax has passed with 55 percent of the vote. The turnout was 29.9 percent of the eligible voters.
Nancy Carriere has won the St. Landry Parish Council District 2 race with 53 percent of the vote. She defeated Angela Brooks-Roberson. Turnout was 35.8 percent. Incumbent Leon Robinson lost a runoff spot in the Oct. 24 primary election.
In St. Landry Parish, Edwards won 63 percent of the vote in the governor’s race.
Holden won 54 percent of the St. Landry Parish vote. in the lieutenant governor’s race.
In the attorney general’s election. Landry won 58 percent of the St. Landry Parish vote.
