New computer lab at LSUE

The computer information and technology department at LSUE now has a new computer lab for students to learn hands-on skills.
Chancellor Kimberly Russell said, “We are very excited to have a new lab. We are updating and equipping our students with state of the art technology. We offer a degree in computer information technology, and we hope to expand that this fall and create some different pathways for students so that they can earn either a certificate or a degree or take a 2 Plus 2 path that is easily transferable.”
The price tag on the new lab was $110,000 and was jointly funded by a Carl Perkins grant and the Board of Regents. The cost included printers, Smart Boards, furnishings and television displays.
Laurie Seeder, a computer information and technology instructor, said, “Our students are working with cutting edge martial and learning about routing and networking and updating. We have VDI — virtual desktop infrastructure — meaning that it is not really a computer per se. It’s just a monitor, a mouse and a keyboard and the students are getting everything off of the server. They can configure that computer that they have any way they want. They can do some of the experiments or hands on exercises that we have working within the networking classes. They can mess it up, and even once we reboot that machine, it goes back to its original state.”
