Nunez reigns as King Cotton LX
LSU Eunice Chancellor and professor of biology William J. Nunez, III is serving as King Cotton LX at this week’s Cotton Festival in Ville Platte.
The festival opened Tuesday night and concludes Sunday. The King and Queen Coronation is Saturday at 4 p.m. and the grand parade is Sunday at noon.
Nunez said he was pleased to be considered for the privilege of serving as King Cotton.
“The Cotton Festival is an outstanding festival and I am looking forward to participating in all of the events,” he said.
Nunez, in his 18th year as chancellor, has strong ties to the Ville Platte community.
He said the Ville Platte Rotary Club has been extremely generous and supporting of the campus throughout the years with its annual scholarship donation, and said many of the school’s exceptional student leaders have come from Ville Platte.
Nunez is a 44-year higher education veteran, coming to LSU Eunice from Indiana University. His professional discipline is microbiology/immunology.
He is or has been active in a number of community activities.
He and his wife Adele, a former elementary teacher and school principal, have two children and three grandchildren.
