Old Glory Relay

Runners carry the flag through Eunice

Runners for the Old Glory Relay ran through Eunice at about noon Tuesday on their way to Tampa, Florida.
After the runners left VFW Post 8971, Post Commander Terry Matte, said, “It is great. This is what America is about. United we stand, divided we fall.”
The run, which started in Seattle, Washington, on Sept. 11, is fundraiser for Team Red White Blue, a veterans’ outreach.
Team RWB is a national non-profit with a mission of connecting veterans to their community through physical and social activity.
The runners through Eunice were from the group’s Shreveport-Bossier chapter.
Russell Poe, of the chapter, said there are up to 500 members in the chapter.
“I’m a veteran and coming back you miss the team work you had in the military,” as a reason for why people are involved in Team Red White Blue.
The next stop was Port Barre and the final destination is Tampa with an arrival on Nov. 11, which is Veterans Day.
The group that ran here started in Kinder and would complete their portion of the 4,216-mile run that involves 61 other teams.
Team RWB chapters in Louisiana include Shreveport-Bossier, Lafayette, Fort Polk/Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Covington/Mandeville, and New Orleans.
