Paul Brown: City Judge candidate

Paul Brown announces city judge candidacy

Attorney Paul Brown has filed campaign committee organizational documents with the Secretary of State preparatory to running for Eunice city judge in November.
Brown has been considering a candidacy since incumbent Lynette Feucht made it known last year that she would not seek another term.
In addition to filing the initial required paperwork, Brown announced his candidacy at a breakfast with supporters, friends and family at Ruby’s on Friday morning.
He provided The Eunice News a formal statement about his candidacy.
Brown’s committee co-chairmen are Mitchell Sittig and Terry Brown. Andrea West is treasurer.
Brown joins Terry Hoychick as an announced candidate for the post. A third attorney, Jay Caswell, has expressed an interest but has not yet filed campaign organizational papers. He has not returned calls regarding his plans.
Judicial campaign rules are different from those for other Louisiana elective office.
Election committees are necessary because judicial candidates or incumbents are prohibited from soliciting campaign funds As candidates, they cannot pledge, promise or committee to a course of action regarding any issues that might come before their court.
Brown, 50, currently has a private law practice and is a prosecutor for the St. Landry Parish Adult Drug Court. He also prosecutes all asset forfeiture claims. Brown serves as an assistant district attorney. He previously served as a prosecutor for both Eunice and Opelousas City Courts.
He said at his Friday breakfast that he decided to run after “lots of thought, consideration, prayer and encouragement.”
