Qualifying begins Tuesday for Oct. 24 election
Qualifying for the upcoming elections will be Tuesday through Thursday in both St. Landry and Acadia parishes.
Qualifying in St. Landry Parish will be at the Old City Market building in Opelousas from 8 a.m to 4:30 p.m. each day. Those seeking to qualify must bring a copy of their voter’s registration, and qualifying fees can be paid by cash, money order, cashiers check from a state or national bank or U.S. postal office money order.
St. Landry Parish qualifying costs are as follows: state senatorial (District 22, 24, 26 and 28) $600; state representative (District 38, 39, 40, 41 and 46) $450; sheriff, $450; clerk of court, $450; assessor, $450; coroner, $450; parish president, $450; council member (District 1 through 13), $230; justice of the peace (District 7), $150; and mayor (Town of Grand Coteau), $80. Elections in St. Landry, parishwide, are: governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, treasurer, commissioner of agriculture and forestry, commissioner of insurance, state representative, sheriff, assessor, clerk of court, coroner, parish president and three constitutional amendments. Elections in Eunice are: BESE District 8, state senatorial District 24 and 28, state representative District 38 and 41, council members in District 12 and 13 and Fire District No. 6.
In Acadia Parish, qualifying will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the second floor of the courthouse in Crowley in the Clerk of Court’s office. No personal or campaign checks will be accepted. Cash or money order only. For more information, call 788-8881.
