If you’re looking for smorgasbord of things Louisiana, the Experience Louisiana Festival is the place to be, according to local artist Michelle Reed.
“The festival will have a little of everything,” Reed, president of the Eunice Community Art House, said. “The festival will be a buffet of what Louisiana is.”
The festival will be Oct. 17-18 at the LSU Eunice campus. Reed, along with artists Hannah Thibodeaux and Jerica Guillory, both with the art house, will be helping to coordinate the Artist’s Village at the festival. The art house and Niche Gallery will have a booth in the village.
“The village will showcase artists from Louisiana and art of things from Louisiana,” Reed said. “There will be paintings, drawing and fine arts from locals and artists from the surrounding areas. It’s like taking what we have on display at the gallery and adding extra.”
Reed was born in Washington state, lived in Puerto Rico and now lives here in Eunice and is wife of Eunice native David Reed. The artist compared the atmosphere of Louisiana living to that of Puerto Rico.
“The culture in Louisiana is a lot like the culture in Puerto Rico,” she said. “It centers around family, food, good times and being together. I hope to share what I have learned about Louisiana culture with others at the festival, and I hope they enjoy it.”
“I hope artists in the village will come together and share their work with one another. I hope the festival brings people to this one central area. It is a chance to educate even local people about the culture. There are some things that we don’t always know.”
