Roger Young seeks School Board re-election

Young: Candidate for re-election.

Roger Young has announced he will seek re-election to the St. Landry School Board District 11 seat in the Nov. 4 primary.
Young is a life-long resident of the Savoy-Swords area and a retired educator. He was principal of Glendale School for 26 years and an educator for 36. His wife Nettie worked with youngsters at East Elementary in Eunice.
They are the parents of Blake and his wife Mindy and grandparents of Noah and Emma, all of whom live in Atlanta, Ga. Ward, their younger son, lives in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Young attended schools in Eunice and received his high school diploma from Chataignier. He holds a BA from UL Louisiana, and master’s and master’s plus 30 from LSU.
His post-graduate studies include guidance and counseling- LSU; Reading Specialist, LSU; Management and Professional Improvement for Administrators, LSU; Second Language Studies, LSU; Studies for Administrators With Second Languages, LSU, University of Belgium and University of Paris, France; and Special Education Studies, LSU.
Young taught English and Social Studies and was guidance counselor at Eunice High before taking the job as Glendale’s first principal.
He has twice been president of the School Board and has served on its Executive, Personnel, Academcs, Finance and Buildings, Lands and Sites Committees.
Young is a member of First Baptist Church, Eunice, and a charter member of the Acadian Baptist Center and the Savoy Swords Water System.
He is a member of the National School Boards Association and has received its award for Distinguished Service to Children.
He is a member of the Louisiana School Boards Association and the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association.
