Sales tax revenues decline

Sales tax revenues in Eunice and St. Landry Parish fell in July compared to a year ago and were down for the year compared to same period in 2015.
Eunice sales tax revenues were down 3.5 percent in July compared to revenues in July 2015, according to the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division.
July revenues were $459,112, down from $475,637 a year ago in July.
In St. Landry Parish, July total sales tax revenues were $5,931,681, down from $6,039,862 a year ago — a 1.8 percent decline.
Sales tax revenues year-to-date in Eunice are down 0.5 percent compared to the same seven months in 2015. Eunice revenues were $3,128,552, down from $3,146,393 from January to July in 2015.
St. Landry Parish year-to-date sales tax revenues are $38,514,050, down from $39,395,524 in the same period in 2015 — a 2.2 percent decrease.
Eunice sales tax revenue did rise from June’s $412,680 to $459,112 in July.
St. Landry Parish’s total sales tax revenue also rose from June’s $5,388,929 to July’s $5,931,681.
The parish sales tax total includes parish, school, solid waste, law enforcement and municipal taxes.
The sales tax rate in Eunice is 10.75 percent. Of that 5 percent is state, 3.55 percent is parish and 2.2 percent is city.
Unincorporated areas pay a 10.5 percent sales tax revenue, which includes 5 percent state and 5.5 percent parish rates.
On April 1, the state sales tax rate rose by 1 percent.
