September schedule set at Prairie Acadian Cultural Center

The Prairie Acadian Cultural Center of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve shares “the Cajun way” every Saturday, with music, food, and fun for visitors of all ages.
Beginning at 2:45 p.m., local musicians perform traditional Cajun dance tunes. At 4 p.m., the center’s guest chefs show off their Cajun and Creole culinary skills. Visitors will enjoy samples and receive a copy of the day’s recipe.

On the schedule for September:
— Sept. 10: Johnny Reed corn and seafood bisque; featured musician Paul Fruge.
— Sept. 17: Charles Seale mirliton casserole; featured musician Kegan Navarre.
— Sept. 24: Drake Leonards Luke dish TBA; featured musician Greg Lejeune.
After the day’s fun at the center, it’s time for the weekly Rendez-vous des Cajuns live music show at the Liberty Theater, right next door to the center at 200 Park Ave. The show begins at 6 p.m. Ticket information is available at 337-457-7389 or www.eunice-la.com.
The Prairie Acadian Cultural Center is managed by the National Park Service as part of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. The center features exhibits interpreting the culture of the Acadians who settled the prairies of southwest Louisiana. Special programs every Saturday include Explore & Restore craft workshops for kids (10 a.m. to noon) and Cajun Conversations to learn and practice conversational Cajun French (1 to 2:30 p.m.). The center is open 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday-Friday and Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The center is closed on all federal holidays but open on Mardi Gras Day. Admission to the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center is free and all activities and demonstrations are free and open to the public.
