Some days better than others

Eunice High senior Bailie Reed, 18, diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, says the size of the tumor has not increased or decreased in size.
Reed, first diagnosed as a two-year old, has been undergoing chemo treatments at St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. for the past year, as well as receiving treatments at a medical facility in Baton Rouge affiliated with Our Lady of Lake Hospital.
According to Reed, her Memphis doctors wish to finish this year out with same treatments, and, depending upon her body conditions and bone marrow, would like to continue an additional six months.
Reed receives chemo treatments in Memphis every two months and once a week in Baton Rouge she undergoes treatments as well as physical therapy to strengthen her legs.
Reed said she has her “ups & downs” periods, and added, “Some days and weeks are harder than other weeks. I tire-out very easily.”
Reed also continues to have more dental procedures due to past radiation treatments.
With the recent news of her condition, Reed says, “Sometimes I feel discouraged, however, other times I feel blessed. I try my best to live a normal life... and try to stay positive.”
She plans to attend her senior prom in April with her date - Ian Suire, a senior from Mamou High School. She will wear the traditional senior white gown.
Her older sister, Brittney Shircliff of Eunice, who paid a visit with Bailie at newspaper office claims, “Her dress is absolutely beautiful!”
Reed, a home-bound student, is keeping up with her studies, assignments, and homework. She plans to graduate in May with her fellow classmates.
When asked her future plans after graduation, she answered immediately, “To become a licensed cosmetologist just like my older sister Brittney and my mom.”
Reed, the daughter of Gwen Reed of Eunice and Conwin Reed of Eunice, plans to attend LA Academy of Beauty.
