State's First Lady pays visit to Eunice Elementary students
Eunice Elementary kindergarteners welcomed a special guest Tuesday, First Lady Supriya Jindal.
Jindal awarded the kindergarteners with healthy lifestyle tools, which included jump ropes, basketballs, basketball goals, ring toss games, kick-balls, and much more. She also encouraged students to eat healthy, gets plenty of sleep, and drink lots of water.
The Supriya Jindal Foundation for Louisiana’s Children and Amerigroup Foundation promotes students to “Choose Smart and Get Active”. This program provides schools with hands-on-tools to aid in the health education of our state’s young students.
Eunice Elementary was chosen as one of St. Landry Parish recipients of Healthy Lifestyle tools.
Principal Mary Dupre added, “We are very excited to have these wonderful tools at school.”
Jindal asked the group of kindergarterners different questions, “What’s your favorite thing to do at school?”, “How many of you enjoy recess time?” , “How do you become healthy?” Many hands were raised, asking permission to answer. Many answered, “You have to eat your carrots,” “You have to drink lots of milk,” “You have to eat lots of fruit and vegetables.” “You have to eat breakfast.”
The kindergarteners also enjoyed a brief “Storytime” with La. First Lady as she read a book, “IQ Gets Fit.” From the story, sudents learned about a mouse, named “IQ”. He wanted so badly to win a contest at school. The contest was about how to get fit and how to choose healthy foods. He did not choose healthy foods at the beginning but learned later to choose Healthy foods. IQ learned how to eat a balanced diet and exercise.
At the conclusion of First Lady’s visits she presented students with gifts, A governors special pencil, “Corduroy” storybooks, “Busy Bees Broadway” storybooks, La. Trading cards, La. coloring books.
