Abbeville teen charged in four burglaries, loot recovered

Eunice police arrested a suspect Monday in the Easter burglaries for at least four Bengal Village apartments.
Records indicate offices went to the privately owned and managed LSU Eunice student housing after a complaint and discovered the burglaries had happened while students were asleep, evidently sound asleep.
Upon further investigation officers found a witness that allegedly observed someone climbing out of an apartment at 3:30 a.m. Sunday and it wasn’t the Easter bunny. The witness alleged it was Demarco Chambers.
Officers then went to Chambers’ apartment and made contact with him. Chambers, 19, of Abbeville was advised of his rights and questioned. During questioning he allegedly admitted to the burglaries and allowed officers to search his apartment.
All items taken from the four apartment burglaries were recovered from Chambers.
Items recovered included a 46-inch Vizio flat screen TV, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3, Nintendo 64, Xbox 360, Apple laptop, Apple Ipod, games and accessories for the gaming consoles.
The stolen items were all returned to the victims and totaled in value of over $3,600.
Chambers was booked into the Eunice City Jail then transferred to the Acadia Parish Jail on charges of simple burglary and felony theft.
