Weather knocks out Cleco power
Severe weather rolled through Eunice Tuesday afternoon, leaving 3,460 without power, according to Robbyn Cooper, manager of investor and public relations at Cleco.
“The outages started around 3 p.m.,” Cooper said. “At its height, the number of customers in the area without power reached 3,460, and by 5 p.m., only 519 people remained without power. By 8 p.m. 19 customers were still without power, and power to these Cleco customers was restored between by 10 p.m.”
Strong winds causing problems with the power company’s systems and substations and tree limb damage were cited as a reason for the outages.
“Basically, we had outages all over that area including in Opelousas, Crowley, Washington, Basile and Ville Platte,” Cooper said. “Areas all over that section were without service.”
