Rotarians heard details of how the new Food Stamp program will work. It will first be introduced in this area in Evangeline Parish, according to supervisor Billy Wood.
Hospital authorities have signed a contract to begin construction of additions to Moosa Memorial Hospital. Tudor Construction of Pineville has the $325,000 contract.
The mayor and board of alderman voted to rend land for one year to build a municipal airport. One tract will be used for an airstrip, another for access to it. The property is on the Ledoux estate south of the city.
The St. Landry Police Jury asked the State Library to establish a demonstration library in Opelousas. There are currently two private libraries -- one of them in Eunice -- in the parish.
Highland Elementary cheerleaders this year are Karen LaFleur, Bernadette Langston, Judy Rogers, Sheila Flash and Sherry Newman.
S.J. Lemoine of Bunke was low bidder for construction of the new Basile Bearcat Football Stadium with an offer of $54,000.
Eight Louisiana College journalism students spent a day working at The Eunice News as part of their community news education. They were Dick Day, Columbia; Dixie Dugan, Minden; Carl Foreman, St. Landry; Bill Laird, Mangham; Melvin Newschangler, Oak Grove; Roy Pitchford, Baton Rogue; Wanda Redd, Oakdale; and Ed Young, Lewisville, Miss.
Continental Oil advised the city its natural gas reserve at Tepetate is depleted and the supply contract with the city will be voided. The contract has been in place since 1936 and stipulates a rate of seven cents MCF. The market rate now is 21 cents.
A mass dosage of the Sabin oral polio vaccine for all people of St. Landry and nearby parishes is planned for the near future, according to Dr. Bernard Fruge. Three doses will be necessary for complete immunity.
Signs are going up eliminating parking on Laurel Avenue as new lane markings make the four-laning official.
