Forecast says snow, icing possible through mid-week

Bad weather news got worse Monday morning as forecasters up their probability call of winter misery for South Louisiana, with the possibility of significantly worse conditions in the south-central portion than the rest of the region.
The area was lashed with a mix of ice and snow last Thursday-Friday, thawed out over the weekend and now faces a more extensive winter visit.
The National Weather Service in Lake Charles expects to upgrade a winter storm watch to a winter storm warning this afternoon for the entire South Louisiana region.
Snow, sleet, and freezing rain will be possible on Tuesday, with the threat starting in the morning, and continuing through the afternoon and evening. It could linger after midnight early Wednesday morning in south central Louisiana.
Total snow accumulations of 2-4 inches is possible in east Texas and central Louisiana, ranging to around 1 inch for the I-10 corridor of southeast Texas and southwest and south central Louisiana.
Total ice accumulations of around one-quarter inch are possible for the I-10 corridor of southeast Texas and southwest and south central Louisiana, ranging to one-tenth of an inch in east Texas and central Louisiana. Of note, south central Louisiana may be in line to see a more significant ice accumulation.
Due to windy conditions Tuesday, power outages may become more numerous for the I-10 corridor, especially in southwest and south central Louisiana.
Due to temperatures below 20 F Wednesday morning, snow and ice will be slow to melt off the bridges and overpasses on Wednesday.
At the earliest, the winter precipitation could be melting by Wednesday afternoon, but that will only if temperatures warm up enough. Currently we are forecasting highs in the mid to upper 30s, which may not be enough to melt all of the snow and ice..
