DWI charged in three-vehicle accident
A driver allegedly four times beyond the legal alcohol limit caused a three-car traffic crash, endangering the lives of five children, on Wednesday evening, according to the Eunice Police Department.
Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of U.S. Hwy 190 in front of Tobacco Plus for a three-vehicle crash.
A 2006 Chevrolet pick-up truck driven by Gregory McMahon, 49, of Oberlin, was traveling west on Hwy 190. Police said that McMahon’s truck struck a vehicle which was stopped in the turning lane.
The vehicle in the turning lane was driven by Rosie Richard, 30, of Ville Platte, and had four passengers, children ranging in age from one to 10 years of age.
After striking the vehicle in the turning lane, McMahon’s truck then crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a third vehicle, a 2007 Yukon, which was traveling east.
The driver of the third vehicle was Lauren Richard, 28, of Branch, who had her 3 year-old child as a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
McMahon failed a roadside field sobriety test and was taken into custody for further testing. McMahon then tested positive for a .359g% blood alcohol content on the intoxilyzer. The legal limit in Louisiana is .08.
He was then booked on charges of Reckless operation of a motor vehicle and DWI 1st offense. He bonded out for a sum of $2,127 on Thursday morning with a pending court date in Eunice City Court, according to Eunice police.
