St. Edmund Catholic School honors its Students of the Year
Each year, St. Edmund Catholic School participates in the Louisiana Department of Education’s Student of the Year Program. This program is designed to recognize outstanding elementary, middle/junior high, and high school students.
This program is an excellent opportunity to recognize from each school system those students who have demonstrated excellent academic achievement. The criteria are set by the Louisiana Department of Education for all schools to follow.
Students in the fifth, eighth, and twelfth grades with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above are eligible to participate in the program.
St. Edmund Catholic School is proud to announce Savannah DeVillier as the 2013-2014 Fifth-grade Student of the Year; Lauren Gabrielle Fontenot, as the 2013-2014 Eighth-grade Student of the Year; and Jada Fontenot, as the 2013-2014 Twelfth-grade Student of the Year.
Savannah DeVillier is the daughter of Phillip and Lisa DeVillier of Eunice. Savannah’s activities and awards include member of the basketball team for one year, Softball player for the past six years, a dancing student for the past 8 years (Junior Dance Competition Team for 1 year, Teen Competition Team for 1 year, Senior Competition Team for 1 year. She was in the Ms. Basile Pageant and Ms. Eunice Pageant. She was a piano student for one year, receiving Outstanding Student Award, and first place in Festival of Competition. She performed at Eunice Manor Nursing Home for Christmas. DeVillier is a member of the National Junior Beta Club, a 4-H member for the past two years, receiving the Blue Ribbon Award for 4-H Discovery Project. She has been a DARE Program member for the past five years and a Pre-K Peer Partner. She is a dancing student teacher, and won Bluejay of the Week for the past five years. She has received Young Christian of the Month for the past four years. DeVillier has entered many pageants and wore many crowns; Junior Deb Crawfish Etouffee Queen and Junior Deb La Femme de Fleur Queen for Breast Cancer Awareness.
Lauren Gabrielle Fontenot is the daughter of Mitch and Julie Fontenot of Eunice. Lauren’s leadership positions held includes serving as Vice President of the seventh grade class, Co-Captain of the T-Jay Cheerleaders, Co-Captain of the Jayette Spirit Group, and Vice President of the eighth-grade class. Her activities include, Happy Days Counselor, St. Edmund Basketball team member, St. Edmund Softball player, altar server, St. Edmund Cross Country member, Blue Ice Softball Travel Team, Varsity Cheerleader, Jayettes member, a participant at English Humanities Rally. She was a T-Jay Cheerleader, and part of the Cajun Crushers Softball Team, and a member of National Junior Honor Society. Her awards include, first place winner of the Catholic Daughters of America Essay Contest, St. Edmund Blue Book Award recipient, an honored St. Edmund Young Christian Awardee, second place winner for International Day Project, third place winner in the Catholic Daughters of America State Essay Contest-Essay published in the Immaculate Heart Messenger, third plac winner in the Patriots Pen State Essay Contest, and a recipient of the Woodmen of the Year Award for St. Edmund Academics.
Jada Fontenot is the daughter of Mitch and Julie Fontenot of Eunice. Jada’s leadership positions held include Student Council Vice President, Varsity Cheerleading Co-Captain, Campus Ministry President, Junior Class Vice President, Sophomore Class Vice President, and Freshman Class Vice President. Her activities include, St. Anthony Altar Server, St. Edmund Track and Field member, National Junior Honor Society member, Quiz Bowl member, FBLA member, Drumline member, Varsity Cheerleading, a member of St. Edmund Tennis team, member of National Honor Society, AHEC member, ACT 22+Club member, St. Edmund softball team member, Washington D.C. Pro-Life Marcher and a Student Council member. Her awards include, third place in Algebra I in the District Literary Rally, Homecoming Court maid, Class Favorite, first place in Spanish I in the District Literary Rally, earned an Excellent score in Business Calculations at the FBLA District Convention, Excellent score in Computer Applications at the FBLA District Convention, second place in English III at the District Literary Rally, and ACE Letterman member.
