Crawfish catches are running light in area nets and the going rate is $2.10 per pound.

LSU at Eunice’s inaugural baseball season began with a home series against Itawamba Community College of Mississippi. The Bengals lost the first game but won the second.

Pamela Wood, who moved here from Mississippi to enjoy what she called Eunice’s peaceful nature, spoke up for police at the City Council meeting.

Sgt. Varden Guillory has secured a $52,000 grand for the Police Dept. It will be used for equipment and drug enforcement overtime costs.

Eunice High offensive lineman Dustin Droddy has signed to play football for McNeese State. Seth Aguillard signed to play with Louisiana College.

The Chamber of Commerce board voted to eliminated the executive director’s position and will provide Lynn LeJeune a severance package and letter of recommendation. Board President Billy O’Donnell said the decision was an economic one.

Residents have moved into the new 204-bed, 102-room Eunice Manor Nursing Home, built at a cost of about $7 million. Kim Houser is administrator.

Hoby Givens, Eunice High senior, finished first in the St. Landry American Legion Oratory Contest.

Eunice youngsters Millicent Allen and Sagan Allen got to play tennis with pros Venus and Serena Williams and Chandra Rubin during a clinic in Lafayette.

The Eunice News has moved into its new quarters on South Aymond and begun using its new Goss color press.

Area residents joined to form a booster club for LSU at Eunice athletics. Contacts for persons wishing to join include Curtis Joubert, Ellis Daigle and Mickey Guillory.

Wilford Arnaud has purchased the 62-acre Dresser complex on the northwest edge of town.
