Big J & The Zydeco Dog Pound entertains seniors at COA Mardi Gras Dance

Seniors gathered for the annual St. Landry Parish Council on Aging Mardi Gras dance held Monday afternoon at the Northwest Community Center.
A crowd of traditional Mardi Gras clad seniors, some masked, danced to Cajun and Zydeco music provided by Big J & Zydeco Dog Pound.
Judges made final decisions and crowned a King and Queen, Most Traditional, Prettiest Costume, and Best Female and Male Dancers.
Seniors enjoyed free Mardi Gras King cake and punch and gumbo was sold.
Winning King was Clarence Matherne of Raceland and his Queen was Olita Bordelon of Eunice. Best Female Dancer was Kathy Spadoni and Best Male Dancer was Pete Spadoni of Slidell. Most Traditional Costume was awarded to Fernella Sonnier and Whitney Sonnier of Branch. Prettiest Costume trophy went to Cheryl Hebert and Bert Hebert of Houma.
Laura Balthazar served as Mistress of Ceremonies.
Judges included Eunice Police Chief Ronald Dies, Blaine David of St. Landry Sheriff Dept.; Judy Johnson of Eunice Extended Care, Cheryl Long of Central LA Home Health, Theresa Stelly of Central LA Home Health and Desiree’ Ardoin of Central LA Home Health.
