Bobcats cruise past Mamou

The Eunice High Bobcats claimed their third consecutive win by taking a 10-0 victory over the Mamou High Green Demons in baseball action Monday afternoon at Bobcat Field.
Coach Scott Phillips’ Bobcats were led by senior pitcher Scotty Bihm, who scattered three hits, walked none, and struck out eight in six innings of work. Bihm evened his record at 1-1 with his shutout performance.
The Bobcats jumped to an early lead with three runs in the first inning off Mamou starting pitcher Aaron Johnson. Jake Sonnier had an infield hit, stole second, and scored on a single by Andrew Lomas. After Jordan Comeaux walked and the Cats pulled off a double steal, both runners scored on a double by A. P. Sonnier.
The Cats extended their lead to 6-0 with three runs in the third inning. Comeaux opened the inning with a walk and advanced to third on another double by A.P. Sonnier. Kalum Fruge doubled home one run, and Sonnier would later score on a wild pitch. Fruge scored the final run on a sacrifice fly by Brennan Ashley.
The Cats added two runs in the fifth off reliever Corey Bordelon. Comeaux singled, went to second on a wild pitch, and eventually scored on a ground out by Fruge. Wes Hebert, Ashley, Gunner Fontenot had consecutive singles to plate another run.
The Cats added their final two runs in the sixth inning. Two Mamou errors and singles from Jake Sonnier and Hebert ended the game by 10-run rule. Getting hits for the Demons were Johnson, Josh Fontenot, and Tanner Landreneau.
The Bobcats completed play in the Opelousas Catholic tournament by posting wins over False River Academy and Catholic of Pointe Coupee on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
In a 10-0 win over False River, sophomore Caleb Taylor picked up the mound win. Taylor worked three-and-one third innings, allowing one hit and striking out five. Alec Trosclair and Christian Lejeune combined to finish the final inning and two-thirds for the Cats. The pair allowed no hits, issued one walk, and struck out two.
Jake Sonnier had three doubles and scored three runs to lead the Cats against False River. Lomas added a double and a single with two RBI, while Hebert contributed two singles, a sacrifice fly, and four RBI. Bihm chipped in with a run-scoring double as well.
In Sunday’s 13-2 win over Catholic of Pointe Coupee, Kalum Fruge earned the mound win with three innings of two-hit pitching. Trosclair and Taylor Hanks each worked an inning to complete the 5-inning win.
The Cats scored ten runs in the first inning to take control of the contest. Lomas had a two-run double, with Fruge and Ashley each hitting two-run singles to pace the Eunice High offensive attack in the first inning. Bihm and Hebert added run-scoring doubles in the game.
The Cats travel to Monroe today where they will play Bastrop at Neville High’s field in a 5 p.m. start. The Cats will stay in Monroe to play three more games before returning home Saturday.
