"Tuna Does Vegas" newest Eunice Players' production
The Eunice Players’ Theatre will begin its 45th season by taking a trip back to Tuna, Texas. “Tuna Does Vegas” re-unites the lovable and eccentric characters from the ‘third smallest town in Texas’ as they take a rambling romp in Sin City. The play opens March 27 and will run thru April 5 at the Eunice Players’ Theater.
The hilarity begins when oddball-conservative radio host Arles Struvie announces on air that he and his wife Bertha Bumiller are heading to Vegas to renew their wedding vows...but everyone in Tuna, Texas goes along for the ride.
Written by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard, “Tuna Does Vegas” will feature the favorite characters from the award-winning Greater Tuna productions with some new characters too.
“Tuna Does Vegas” balances as both an affectionate comment on small-town life and attitudes as well a hilarious satire of the same. The eclectic band of citizens that make up this town are portrayed by only two actors, making this send-up on life in rural America even more delightful as they depict all of the inhabitants of Tuna -- men, women, as well as Vegas showgirls, Elvis impersonators and more.
Filling the roles will be Dr. Kevin Miller and Van Reed. These two Irving winning actors are returning to roles that they have played before in E.P.T. productions of Tuna Christmas (2001) and Greater Tuna (2009).
Returning as director is Ching Wasmuth, this time joined by Gabe Ortego. Wasmuth directed the two previous Tuna productions featuring Miller and Reed at EPT while Ortego served as director and starred in a production of Tuna Christmas at Opelousas Little Theatre.
Performance dates are March 27, 28; April 1, 3, 5 at 7 p.m., with a matinee on Sunday, March 30 at 2 p.m. Dinner Theatre (steak and trimmings) is set for Wednesday, April 2 at 6 p.m. at Ruby’s Restaurant, next door to the theater.
Individual tickets for the show are $10; dinner theatre is an additional $15. Tickets can be purchased at David Ltd. Salon at 204 South Second Street. in Eunice, or by calling David Manuel at 546-0163 or Debi Crawford at 457-2156 to charge by phone.
