LSU boxing champion
BATON ROUGE – Services for former LSU boxing champion and US Army Chemical Services director Earl Turner, Sr. will be Monday. He died March 27 at age 100.
He was a veteran of World War II, reaching the rank of lieutenant colonel as chief of branch of the US Army Chemical Corps, He remained in the active reserves until 1957. He attended LSU on a four-year boxing scholarship, losing only one fight in four years and serving as team captain. He was retired from Humble Oil (ExxonMobile).
Survivors include his wife Daisy, two sons and a step-daughter.

Former statte Principal of the Year
ALEXANDRIA – Services for educator and administrator Ronald Akins will be Tuesday. He died March 30 at age 66.
He was former principal Bolton High School and director of the Rapides Parish Schools magnet program. He was a past state debate coach of the year and was a former president of the Louisiana Principals Association. He was Louisiana Principal of the Year in 2000 and on the board of the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
Survivors include his wife Linda, a son and a daughter.

Pharmacist
BREAUX BRIDGE – Services for pharmacist and civic leader Walter Broussard will be Monday. He died March 28 at age 81.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and owner of Patin Pharmacy for 30 years.
HE was a former president of the Breaux Bridge Merchants Association and a member of the Chamber of Commerce board. He was chairman of the Housing Authority for many years and a member of the Parks and Recreation Committee which development Parc Hardy. He was also instrumental in introducing the Bayou Parade at the annual Crawfish Festival.
Survivors include his wife Rita, two sons and a daughter.

Schools library supervisor
SHREVEPORT – Services for parish school library supervisor Dr. Marjorie Ducote will be private. She died March 26 at age 66.
She was an elementary school principal before becoming parish schools supervisor of libraries in 1984, a post she held until 2007. On her watch, computers were introduced in all school libraries for students’ use and all school libraries were automated.
Survivors include a sister.
