Vehicle crosses median, hits another, kills its driver
State Police report a Jeanerette man died from injuries he sustained earlier Monday in a 3-vehicle crash on U.S. 90 east of La. 88.
According to troopers, shortly after 1 p.m. 21-year-old Dawn Broussard of New Iberia, was driving a 2007 Mercury passenger car east on U.S. 90.
For reasons still under investigation, Broussard traveled through the median into the westbound lanes and struck a 2008 Honda passenger car driven by 47-year-old Jarwin Bourque of Jeanerette.
Broussard’s vehicle continued traveling east in the westbound lanes and struck a 2010 Toyota Camry driven by 49-year-old Charles Robertson of New Iberia.
Broussard was wearing a seat belt and was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. Bourque was properly restrained and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Shortly after arriving he died as a result of his injuries. Robertson, who was also wearing his seat belt, was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Troopers do not suspect impairment was a factor in this crash; however, routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
This crash remains under investigation.
