Lady Cats fall to Rayne

In a battle for third place in District 4-4A, Rayne exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning to help the Lady Wolves grab a 16-3 win over the Eunice Lady Cats.
After a road trip to Live Oak today, Eunice continues district play at Crowley on Tuesday.
Rayne (10-8, 5-3) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, begun when Kaitlyn Ledoux singled and scored on a hit by Kristen Gaspard.
Katie Benoit singled and scored on a passed ball.
The Lady Wolves pushed ahead 3-0 in the top of the second on a solo home run by pitcher Kelsey Bourgois.
EHS (8-13, 6-4) sent eight batters to the plate in the bottom of the third inning as the Lady Cats rallied for a 3-3 tie.
Kate McLemore walked and scored on a hit by Logan Ledoux.
Darrian Fontenot reached on a fielder’s choice and a double to center by Ryan Citizen pushed two runs across.
The Lady Wolves then put the game away with seven runs in the top of the fourth inning.
McKenzie Meche singled and scored when Whitney Fontenot reached on an error.
Fontenot touched home plate on Ledoux’s double up the middle.
Benoit followed with a single and Kristen Gaspard cleared the bases with a triple down the third base line.
Chelsey Schxynder walked and scored on a passed ball, while Gaspard scored on a single by Blaire Bergeron.
Bourgois walked and was driven across on a hit by Meche.
Rayne added four insurance runs in the top of the fifth to complete the mercy-rule win.
Schxynder and Bergeron each reached on a fielder’s choice both and scored on Lady Cat errors.
Bourgois singled and scored on a hit by Meche.
The Lady Cats threatened when Mia Lejeune doubled in the third, Heidi Pitre doubled in the fourth and Sadie West was hit by a pitch in the fifth, but none could score.
Citizen went 2-for-2 with two RBI and Pite went 2-for-2.
Last week, the Lady Cats picked up a pair of district wins over Washington-Marion and LaGrange.
On Tuesday Eunice rolled to a 15-0 win over Washington-Marion sparked by an 11-run explosion in the second inning.
Lyons scored three times off three walks, while West added three runs off a triple and two walks.
McLemore went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.
Citizen went 2-for-2 wth two walks and two runs scored.
Ledoux, Bellard and Pitre all collected hits and scored for the Lady Cats.
Winn earned the shutout as she allowed one hit with two walks, four strikeouts and a hitbatsman.
In the 15-11 win over LaGrange on Thursday, the Lady Cats scored seven runs in the top of the ninth to steal the victory.
The Lady Gators scored three runs in the bottom of the inning. but Winn struck out the final batter to end the game.
Lyons had a strong performance as she went 4-for-5 with three runs scored, while West went 3-for-5 with three runs scored
Citizen went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, while Ledoux and McLemore both went 3-for-5 with a run scored.
Winn earned the win as she allowed nine hits with three strikeouts, three walks and two hitbatsmen.
